Barry Recognised for Impressive Nottingham Repair Task
5th October 2004

FSL Project Manager Barry Stacey, who oversaw the major repair of the Type 42 destroyer HMS Nottingham after she hit a rock off Australia, has received a special award to mark his efforts.

Barry, who recently retired after more than 40 years working for FSL and its predecessor the Fleet Maintenance and Repair Organisation, was one of a number of recipients who were presented with a Certificate of Commendation from WSA Chief Executive John Coles.

In a ceremony at HMS Sultan, Mr Coles also recognised the efforts of the ships Commanding Officer and representatives from the WSA and Flag Officer Surface Fleet for their efforts in the repair.

Barry took over the project on HMS Nottingham when the ship arrived in Portsmouth in December 2003 and led the team that did a sterling job in ensuring that the ship returned to service on time in mid-2004 after the major repair task to her hull, machinery and systems.
