FSL And AMS Support Initiative
5 October 2004

Portsmouth-based naval ship support company Fleet Support Limited (FSL) and naval radar and combat system company AMS have concluded an innovative collaborative agreement to enhance the delivery of waterfront support to the Royal Navy in Portsmouth Naval Base.

The agreement inaugurates a partnered approach to improving business and industrial processes. The companies will seek efficiency in the ways which they interact between themselves and, as an industrial team, with the MoD with the aim of offering better, faster and more cost effective support to Royal Navy maintenance and support.

The first action resulting from the agreement is a project to improve support of the T996 surveillance radar for which AMS are the design authority.

AMS engineers will be co-located with FSL’s support team at the waterfront, using common computer systems to pool both organisations T996 expertise.

This will allow faster, more detailed telephone response to immediate problems aboard deployed vessels. It will also allow smarter diagnostics as ships return from operations, with the objective of reducing the number of equipment failures and hence repairs needed.

FSL Managing Director Ian Booth said: “FSL and AMS are each experts in their own field. There is no doubt that this agreement, combining our resources to offer better, joint, services to the Royal Navy will offer real benefits to the customer.”

AMS Deputy CEO, Clive Richardson commented: “AMS has a commitment to moving our support activities as close to the customer as possible. This agreement is a major step forward, allowing the integration of the flexibility of Naval Base operations with the depth of skills of the AMS engineering organisation.”
